The fishery itself has had a long and distinguished existence with salmon and sea trout records going back many years. Typically a summer grilse spate river with an occasional early run, water control is critical for migration and arguably the dam in need of repair was the most important on the system being some 14 metres in length and controlling outflow from the lower of 2 lochs on the system, thus ensuring a reasonable flow of water through the main river at all times. The current structure, being decades old, was largely constructed of shore rock, shingle and mortar and wearing away to a point of being noticeably porous and in real danger of being washed away completely in high water conditions.
The location of the dam was not readily easy to reach for volunteer workers to repair "in-house" and with work only being able to be carried out during a prolonged period of dry weather along the loch level to drop, the financial support allowed the SAA to instruct a suitable specialist contractor with the resources and flexibility to access the site at suitable time. As it was, the timing was almost perfect with the job completed in May 2025 just days before the first substantial rain for many weeks appeared and started to fill the loch again
The structure should now be secure for many years to come to the long-term benefit of the Creed salmon and sea trout stocks.
