A west coast gene bank is one of 10 major projects backed by Scotland’s salmon farmers to help protect iconic wild salmon and sea trout. More than £230,000 has been awarded this year through Salmon Scotland’s wild fisheries fund to support practical work tackling long-term species decline.

Scottish salmon farmers have helped save a crucial Western Isles dam from destruction. The Stornoway Angling Association on Lewis used a £25,000 grant to repair the 14-metre holding dam on the River Creed, securing water flow for migrating salmon and sea trout.

Applications for finanicial support from Salmon Scotland's Wild Fisheries Fund are now being invited.

Organised by Loch Lomond Fisheries Trust through our Wild Fisheries Fund project with Jon Gibb, Salmon Scotland and Bakkafrost Scotland hosted a local youth group to visit the site.
